The arrival of Otto at Nafplio
162 BEHOLDING LIBERTY!
The reception of the mounted young King Otto at Nafplion on February 6, 1833 is triumphant: the administration orders the lighting of the city throughout the night, the music to accompany the celebrations, the fortress cannons to fire three times, and the Admirals to be invited to honor with their presence the festive assembly. The Greek nation welcomes King Otto with open arms as the messenger of peace.
From the left, Bavarian soldiers are pictured having just disembarked from the ships, the Regency on horse- back, and in the centre Otto on a grey horse, standing erect, while the assembled crowd cheers on the right.
