THE NEWSPAPER Ελληνικά Χρονικά/The Greek Chronicles started its circulation in 1824, its editor being the Swiss philhellene, John-Jacob Mayer, and its printer Dimitrios Mestheneas of Thessaloniki. It was printed on the press machine that colonel Stan- hope brought from England – it is noteworthy that
on it Dionysios Solomos’ Ύμνος εις την Ελευθερίαν/ Hymn to Liberty was also printed in 1825.
The newspaper Ελληνικά Χρονικά/ Greek Chronicles was published twice a week from January 1824 to February 1826. It was destroyed on 20 February by bombing in the course of the siege of Missolonghi.
