HALL OF THE TROPHIES
The establishment of the “Panhellenion” by Ioannis Kapodistrias
On April 14, 1827, the 3rd National Assembly of Troezen elects Ioannis Kapodistrias as the first Governor of Greece. One of his first actions was to ask for the suspension of the Troezen Constitution and the establishment of a new form of administration, the “Panhellenion”, who would exist until the convening of a new National Assembly. From then on, the Greek State became a Presidential republic and the Governor had enhanced re- sponsibilities.
Schwanthaler’s drawing originally included in the same composition King Otto signing the formal document that constituted him king of Greece. Finally, Otto was replaced by Kapodistrias, depicted in full body on the right, saluting the establishment of the “Panhellenion”.
