Greetings
Georgios Mylonakis
Secretary General of the Hellenic Parliament
Regarding the administration of Parliament, the goal was to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the National Rebirth, and for it to be accompanied by works of a permanent nature and high add- ed value, regarding the operation of Parliament.
In this context, special emphasis of the Parliament has been placed on showing the operation and maintenance of the Eleftherios Venizelos Hall, the most historic one in the Building, and the only one that still bears fully its initial decoration.
In order to ensure the appropriate conditions of humidity and temperature for the safe preserva- tion of the exhibits, the doors and windows were replaced, together with the air conditioning. Work was also done to restore the marble surfaces and painted decoration.
Special lighting was planned and carried out in order to show clearly the frieze and the medals that adorn the room, emblematic works by the leaders in the 1840s, who were the first full repre- sentatives of events and the pioneers in the Greek Revolution.
Special attention was also paid to the renovation of the Building’s exhibition equipment and the use of new technologies, in order for the exhibition items to be universally accessible. The Parlia- ment now has an ultramodern interactive board on which the visitor can admire the details of the frieze and can also approach the events of the period through special educational innovations. And finally, a digital platform was created with a 3D Tour that provides, for the first time, the ability to conduct a distant approach, from every corner of Greece, to both the exhibition and the emblematic areas of the Parliament.
In one sense, these are also the values that prevail today in the Hellenic Parliament, with the exhibition to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Hellenic Revolution; respect and deep con- templation of the lessons taught by our history on the one hand, together with innovation and approachability on the other.
Past, present and future depicted on a multicolored historical canvas reveal both the struggles and the beauty of Hellenism.
