Provisional Constitution of Greece
Corinth 1822, 1st edition
Library of the Hellenic Parliament
ON 1ST JANUARY 1822 the 1st National Assembly voted the first Constitution of the Rev- olution, the Provisional Constitution of Epidaurus, which, among other things, established the or- ganizational scheme of a central administration, consisting of three bodies: the Legislative, the Executive and the Judicial. The first one exercises the legislative power, approves the annual pub- lic budget, draws up military promotions, while it has the right of veto in relation to the acts of the Executive. On page 57 of the first printed edition
of the Provisional Constitution of Greece (Corinth, 1822), the 33 members of the first Legislative Body are cited, which were elected on 5 January 1822 by the deputies of the 1st National Assem- bly. The edition, which was printed on a press ma- chine transported from Tripolis to Argos and final- ly to Corinth, bears the seal of the Administration and the signature of the Chief Secretary of the State (and minister of Foreign Affairs), Theodoros Negris, with the note that the document is «iden- tical to the original».
