Greek with Flag [cat. no II.8.D.20] is based on the he- roic figure of Nikolaos Mitropoulos flying the revo- lutionary flag at Salona (Amfissa) on Easter 1821, also made after an image by Louis Dupré in Voyage à Athènes et à Constantinople (Paris 1825).
The Greek Sailor in a Raid [cat. no II.8.D.21] is shown with a fine sense of movement, standing on his boat; the complementary details and the decoration are
of high quality. The identification of the main figure as one of the leading figures of the Greek War at sea (Kanaris or Miaoulis) is unfounded.
The figure of a Resting Warrior [cat. no II.8.D.22] is reminiscent in both features and style (with its vivid colouration) of the theme of Giaour [cat. no II.8.D.18]. In any case, ornamentation reigns su- preme here.
