 Andreas Zaïmis (1791-1840)
BORN IN KARPINI OF KALAVRYTA, son of Asimakis Zai- mis, Andreas co-governed the province of Kalavryta together with his father. He was initiated by Andreas Londos in the So- ciety of Friends in 1819 and, in the frame of the preparation of the Revolution, he participated in the secret assembly of Vostitsa in January 1821, where, taking the side of Paleon Pa- tron Germanos against the apostle of the Society of Friends Papaflessas, he appeared to be hesitant as to the immediate undertaking of armed action. In March 1821, together with Io- annis Papadiamantopoulos, Andreas Londos, Benizelos Roufos and others, entered Patras and laid siege to the Muslims of the city in the fort. He participated in setting up the Achaean Directorate, co-signing the proclamation to the consuls of the foreign states.
Andreas Zaimis took part in important battles, as at Vervena of Kynouria on 18 May 1821 leading the forces of his province, together with the men of Theodoros Kolokotronis, as well as in the battle of Girokomio outside Patras (9 March 1822), where he overpowered the forces of Yusuf Pasha. With his own mili- tary corps, he participated in repelling Dramalis and lifting the first siege of Missolonghi, in December 1822.
Important was also the presence of Andreas Zaimis in the do- main of politics. In the First National Assembly (21 December 1821-15 January 1822) he took part as plenipotentiary of his province in the Peloponnesian Senate and was elected mem- ber of the Legislative Body. In the Second National Assembly of Astros (29 March-30 April 1823) he was appointed mem- ber of the Executive body and in the Third National Assembly (Epidaurus, 6-16 April 1826) president of the Administrative Committee.
