Most of the figures are pre- sented indiscernibly in the darkness, thus attributing a dramatic character to the scene. In the centre of the illustration a full body figure of a Greek is pre-
sented, painted in details, touching a doric column and to be absorbed in his thoughts while smoking
The weathered Greeks emerge here on a scenery fulk of ruins, which outline their harsh survival but also their preferential relationship with the historical past.
