A GROUP OF FIVE GREEKS IS DE- P I C T E D , among deserted antiquities, during a time of rest. The characteristic clothings of the skirtbearers (fustaneloforoi) and the arcadian scen- ery are not enough for the potential viewer in order to identify the figures. More specifically, in order to
make the connection of the illustrated with Greece, the broken columns are needed, so the connection with its monumental heritage is made easily. The immediate and daily relation of the Greeks with the ancient monuments holds them all, their “adminis- trators”, on a historical prospective.
