144 BEHOLDING LIBERTY!
The arson of the Turkish flagship of Kara Ali in Chios by the arsonist Konstantinos Kanaris (June 6-7, 1822) was held in retaliation for the abominable massacre of tens of thousands of Greeks in Chios on the March 30, 1822, fact that shocked the European public opinion, gradually turning it in favour of the Greek case.
K. Kanaris is depicted on the left, on his boat along with his sailors, and raises his hand in the victory sign against the blue sky. On the right the Turkish sailors are trying to save themselves at sea while their boats are sinking.
