Mavrokordatos defending Missolonghi
146 BEHOLDING LIBERTY!
In December 1822, Alexandros Mavrokordatos and Markos Botsaris managed to defend the city of Missolonghi against the forces of Omer Vryonis and Kütahi (Resid Mehmed Pasha), in land, and Yusuf Pasha, at sea, delaying thus the negotiations for the capitulation of the city. Finally, on December 31 the besiegers decide to end the siege.
