The Naval Battle of Navarino
156 BEHOLDING LIBERTY!
After the rejection of the Treaty of London of July 6, 1827, by the Sultan, the allied fleet, under admirals Derigny, Codrington and Heyden, faced the Τurko-egyptian forces in the Gulf of Navarino. The battle caused overwhelming losses to the Τurko-egyptian fleet after four hours of continuous cannonry.
The allied powers – the soldiers with turned backs – attack the Ottomans, who are defeated, while, on the left, the ships bear the emblems of the three allied powers.
