THE LARGE DECORATIVE TABLE CLOCKS with figures and scenes of the Greek Revolution, are, in many cases, extraordinary exam- ples of objets d’art on Greek themes, with a corre- sponding horizon of expectation.
They feature either original decoration or images made after popular paintings and prints.
It is the level of detail in rendering the individual figures and complementary decorative patterns, and the size and choice of material that differentiate the result.
Warrior on Horseback [cat. no ΙΙ.8.D.15], featuring a fighter holding his rearing horse by the bridle, draws from the motif of the hippodamist, popular in Greek and Roman classical art.
