to composing various literary works in an archaic style. He composed his play about Karaiskakis at a young age, as a student in Pisa; published in near- by Livorno, it is preceded by a letter of dedication “To the Most Honourable Mr Konstantin Tossizza” (Pisa, December 10, 1828). It is a tragedy in rhyme, in which he mourns the loss of the hero and praises his fighting spirit, and patriotism in general.

DIMITRIOS AINIAN (1800-1881) from Fthiotida was involved in military operations of the Revolution; an educated person, he also acted as secretary of the Executive government. After the Independence, he became a judge and a politician; he also pursued his literary interests and authored many, mainly historical and literary, works.
Having been close to Georgios Karaiskakis as his secretary in the latter part of his life, he published this biography of Karaiskakis, in which he makes use of original sources. This edition was released anonymously, however: Ainian signs it in his capacity as publisher only, rather than as author; in fact, he promises to correct any errors.
