Georgios Vendotis
Trilingual dictionary of the Italian, French and Romaic dialect, vol. II Vienna: By the Printing House of Joseph Baumeister, 1790
Library of the Hellenic Parliament
FIRST EDITION of the trilingual dictionary, which was compiled by the multilingual writer, trans- lator and text editor from Zakynthos G. Vendotis (1757-1795), in accordance with a relevant wish of the prince of Moldavia, Alexandros Mavrokordatos, with the financial aid of a nobleman from Ioannina Dimitrios Pavlou. The edition took place in the prem- ises of Josef Βaumeister, one of the most important printing houses of Greek editions in Vienna, where Ventonis worked since 1787. He also was the edi- tor of the first Greek newspaper, the Ταχυδρόμος της Βιέννης/ Postman of Vienna (1784).
The title «Lexicon» deviates from its modern defini- tion, namely the complete set of a language’s vo- cabulary, since in it there are also included elements of declension, which are normally encountered in a modern Grammar. As to the Greek language, the morphology of its learned/scholarly version is pre- sented in it.
I.2.4
Athanasios Psalidas
True exaltation, that is basis of each religion, vol. I Vienna: By the Printing House of Joseph Baumeister, 1791
Library of the Hellenic Parliament
A YOUTHFUL PHILOSOPHICAL WORK
of the Epirot scholar, writer and teacher Athana- sios Psalidas (1767-1829), in which the ignorance caused by the dominance of passions over the mind is exorcised, and vital metaphysical issues are the- matised, such as the existence of God, immortality of the soul, the concept and boundaries of happi-
ness. Despite the fact that the initial plan was a three-volume edition, the second and third volumes were never published. The first volume contains the translation of the text in Latin.
After the publication of Ευδαιμονία/Eudaimonia (Hap- piness), Psalidas was appointed as principal of the then newly-founded Kaplanaia School in Ioannina.
