136 BEHOLDING LIBERTY!
On March 23, 1821 the Messenian Senate is formed in Kalamata, headed by Petros Mavromichalis, who declares to the European courts: “We have decided either to be free or to die”.
Weapons are distributed to the fighters, on the right, under the watchful eye of the Chiefs on the left, whose facial characteristics and garments are depicted in detail.
